WHEN to start
Benjamin Franklin
After embarking on the college admission process with our daughter, we soon realized that when most families get into “college mode” it is often too late. In today’s world of ever-increasing competitiveness, our family recognized that more attention should be placed on developing an “interesting” high school story starting in ninth grade. Why wait until halfway through high school before thinking out how a student should distinguish themselves?
Plan with purpose
It is not important what particular path a student chooses. Personal interests may be discovered through athletics, the arts, community service, science and engineering projects, work experience, starting a business, or any other activity. What is most important is the dedication, commitment and passion a student demonstrates for their particular activities. Getting started early in high school allows students to develop more depth and become relaxed superstars.

Martin Needle grew up in the suburbs of Washington, DC. After graduating from high school, he attended Emory University, where he majored in economics. He then earned his law degree from George Washington University.
Martin spent much of his career working with the Treasury Department, gaining valuable experience in the field.
Having successfully guided his daughter and son through the college admissions process, Martin was inspired to build a platform to support other high school students as they prepare for the next chapter in their educational journeys.
Martin’s daughter is currently a fourth-year medical student at a top-tier medical school, and his son works as an engineer for a well-known technology company. By following a general model during high school, both were able to make the most of their opportunities and stand out on their college applications.
